Mercedes Benz, has luxury car manufacturing heritage from Germany, is one of the pioneers in luxury car segment through out the world till date. Benz India has its headquarters and production unit in Pune, while its commercial vehicle plant is located in the outskirts of chennai. Company has state-of-the art Research & Development facility at Bangalore, is the largest R&D centre for Benz outside Germany.

A class is yet another luxury cultured car from benz. A class is relatively low priced luxury car cost around 23 Lakhs (INR). Vehicle comes in both petrol and diesel version. Diesel engines has the advantage of low fuel consumption than petrol and also more powerful. A class diesel engine meets the Bharat Stage IV emission norms, which means that engine is less polluting and more environmental friendly. The ECO start/stop function enables the four cylinder engine to get switched off while standing still viz. in traffic signals. The injection pressure is 1800 bar which is tremendously higher, and also has variable geometry turbo charger, whose lag time is lesser at low speeds and also provides higher boost at high speeds.A class petrol variant 1.6 litre engine, with variable valve timing, turbocharger, direct petrol injection, which ensures, vibration less comfortable ride with better fuel economy.

A class has seven speed gear box with front wheel driving system. Gear box is called as 7G-DTC, which

means seven speed dual clutch transmission(a.k.a semi-automatic type). This type of gear box gives the comfort of both manual type and automatic type. One clutch shaft has odd number of gears and other has even number of gears. This ensures, sportier and economical drive. Three different gear shift programs are inbuilt in the car. Sportier mode, gears up quickly, so that vehicle reaches top speed in earlier time. While economical mode gear down quickly, so that vehicle speed is brought down quickly so that vehicle can be stopped at low speed therefore reducing the fuel energy as heat in brakes.

A class has weight optimised suspension system. McPherson strut in the front axle and four link suspension in the rear. This combined system provides driving stability and comfort ride. Steering system comprises of standard rack and pinion type with Steer Control system which the assist the driver in hard driving conditions which enables precise handling of the vehicle. Electromechanical system provides the power assistance which reduces as the speed increases for ensuring safer ride.

Electrically adjustable driver's seat height - This is done by using the controls in the door panels and three different heights can be feed in memory and the seat takes the corresponding height by pressing three different buttons in the door panel control.






Luggage Compartment - A class has quiet larger luggage space. The backrest of the rear seat can be folded in the ratio, 1/3:2/3. By doing this, the luggage space increases up to 1157 litres. By using the car has 5 seater, the luggage space reduces to 341 litres.



Lumbar Seating - Four way lumbar for both the front seats. Lumbar support is nothing but the end

projections in seat and the backrest.  The curvature of the backrest of both the front seats can be adjusted according to the person, which ensures ergonomic seating position for different passengers. Two air cushions are provided in both the front seats. These air cushions can be inflated and deflated according to the comfort of the person.


Multimedia System - A class has innovative multimedia system. Car has 14.7 cm display with TFT technology. The CD drive can play MP3/WMA/AAC files. The multimedia functions can be accessed

through multi functional steering wheel . The system also has telephone keyboard, bluetooth interface with hands free function and in Aux-in and USB port in the central console. This enables already saved music files in the MP3 player, smartphone or mobile data carrier. Also has six loudspeakers which enables crystal clear audio.

Attention Assist - Drowsiness detection system, detects whether the driver is feeling drowsy or not. The different sensors in the cabin detects whether drivers driving behaviour is deviating from the previous determined behaviour.

Electric Parking Brake - On just pressing a button below the light switch allows the parking brakes to be applied electrically.

Safety:
Adaptive Brake lights - In critical braking conditions, brake pressure and vehicle speed are calculated and rear lamps are flashed to avoid rear end collisions.
